I scream, you scream, we all scream because we have crazy kids

Hi all! Over the next two weeks, I’d like to talk about fun spots in West Michigan to take the kids/family. As a mom who is always trying to find ways to tucker these two out, I’m up for anything local and an area that lets the kids be kids. Last weekend we had the pleasure of staying at Great Wolf Lodge (I’ll talk about that visit in a later post), and it made me think about all the fun local activities that may get missed when planning out adventures during summer break.  Our first stop is the deBoer location on the south side of Holland. For those of you Hollanders who are familiar with the north side location and its endless varieties of donuts, you may have noticed changes to their second location. Since I work close to the south side location, I tend to frequent there during lunch to see if I can get my hands on a donut. You guys will come to learn that I LOVE donuts: any and every kind. When I’m not lucky and find myself staring at an empty gla...

Pie for breakfast

Hi all, As I’ve mentioned before, growing up, we didn’t have a large variety of foods. I didn’t learn about quiches until I graduated high school! I love all things, bread, buttery, and full of carbs. My pants would nod in agreement. When I discovered the delectable meal that is a quiche, I was in love. Today I’m going to share a straightforward method by starting with pre-made pie dough. This is an excellent option if you’re going to have company over for breakfast or if you have a busy day and you want to have food prepared beforehand. I like to make this the night before so that in the morning I just have to bring it out and warm up some slices. Noah had 3 servings…that boy just loved...

Spaghetti night for the win

Hi all, Sorry for my absence. We had a lot going on at home and then a strep throat hit me like a brick. If you haven’t had strep before, believe me when I say you’re not missing anything. I have never felt that horrible. I could not get out of bed for three days. I didn’t eat for almost a week! That says a lot about how sick I was. This girl loves to eat.  Today I’m reflecting on the first meal I ever made. It was somewhere in the 7th-8th grade, and I made spaghetti and meatballs for my brothers. I laugh thinking about how I got the recipe for meatballs off the Parmesan cheese container. Spaghetti just seemed like a good idea. It’s such a comforting and filling meal that has become my go-to throughout the years. When I have a short amount of time but don’t want anything fancy I’ll reach for the pasta and sauce. I always make sure to keep the ingredients in the pantry.  Spaghetti isn’t an overly complicated recipe. Most people stick to whatever recipe they ha...
